With spacious holiday cottage accommodation available for a family 5 or a maximum of 4 adults, Bwthyn Pen-y-Fan is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists or just for a relaxing break.
Bwthyn Pen-y-Fan, which has been awarded a “4” star grading by Visit Wales, is a quaint stone terraced, self catering cottage, refurbished to a traditional style for the era in which it was built -housing miners and their families for the newly sunk Merthyr Vale Colliery in the late 1800’s.
It is situated in the heart of the Merthyr Valley, which is steeped in cultural and industrial heritage, along with stunning scenery. The black coal tips now replaced with a “Velvet Green”.
We are dog and child friendly, welcoming visitors that may enjoy: Walking, Cycling, Mountain Biking, Hang Gliding, Parascending, Ornithology, Rock-climbing (outside crags and an indoor climbing centre) Sailing, Canoeing, Windsurfing, Fishing on rivers, lakes and reservoirs. The Brecon Beacons too are on our doorstep.

If all else fails there is of course Retail Therapy in our wonderful Capital City of Cardiff.
ALL of these activities are to be found within approximately 1/2 an hour of the cottage.
Our quaint holiday cottage is located in Merthyr Vale, a former South Wales coal mining village, located 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Merthyr Tydfil.
The Taff Trail is a popular walking and cycle path that runs for 55 miles (89 km) between Cardiff Bay to the south and Brecon to the north. It is named so because it follows the course of the River Taff, which also flows through the village.
Along much of its length, it follows the National Cycle Network Route 8 that continues to Holyhead, and is substantially off-road for much of its length. Below are two useful links.
